Youth Football - Practice #7 of the 2008 SeasonPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesAfter the usual dynamic warm up and angle fit and form tackling, we got right into individual defensive drills. We started off with a game of tackle baseball, a game the kids and parents love. It also gives us a nice picture of who can tackle in the “somewhat” open field. The Defensive Ends: Worked on base sweep recognition and footwork maintaining the proper depth and outside leverage. They then worked on using their hands to keep reach and lead blockers at bay. The Defensive Backs: Worked on base footwork, maintaining the proper cushion with the receiver and closing on the ball. They also worked on open field tackling. The Defensive tackles worked on their base bull rush and rip moves, adding a form tackle fit later in the progression. They then moved to close quarters tackling drills. The Bearcrawlers: Did our usual progression, relay race, squeeze, squeeze to form tackle fit and squeeze to pass recognition. Team defense, reviewed the base linebacker, corner and defensive tackle st … Tags: Baseball Game, Bull Rush, Defensive Backs, Defensive Drills, Dynamic Warm Up, Fit, Football Practice, Footwork, Game Kids, Kids And Parents, Leverage, Quarters, Recognition Team, Relay Race, Squeeze, Tackling Drills, Youth Football

Afraid Your Youth Will Get Seriously Injured Playing Football?Posted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesYou may have even heard a story on the news or read about it somewhere or somebodies mothers’, uncles’, cousin was injured and the story has been told over and over. It almost makes it seem as though these injuries happen all the time! The truth is, youth football injuries are not as common as you would think. At least…the bad kind. Sure enough, the kids are going to get banged up a bit. It is youth football after all, but the injuries are much more likely to be a bruise or a scratch than a life altering injury. Generally speaking, the older the kids get, the chance of injury increases. Not because of the youths age but because of the level of the youth football is more intense with the older aged kids. For example, kids involved in youth football in 8th grade are 4 times more likely to be injured than kids in 4th grade. This is due to increased body size and over all strength. The aggressiveness of the players goes up quite a bit in the older youth also. But even with that, the num … Tags: Aggressiveness, Bruise, Cousin, Football Injuries, Injury Increases, Kids Football, Scratch, Truth, Uncles, Youth Football

Youth Football Speed Development - The Dot DrillPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesThe Dot Drill One of the most effective and common plyometric drill is the dot drill. It usually consists of a mat that has dots on it configured in a box with a dot at each corner of the box and one in the middle. The size of the box varies to the age and ability levels of the participants. There are a variety of drills you can do including just starting with your left foot to the near left corner dot of the box, your right foot on the near right corner dot and then bringing both feet to the center dot on a hop, then hop with the left foot touching the rear left dot, right foot on far right dot. Then coming back to the center with both feet, then back to the starting position and repeat. The goal is quickness, short bent knee hops with good form landings and don’t forget to use your arms. You don’t want to do any of these for more than 7 seconds as our goal is to simulate the duration of the typical youth football play which is 6-7 seconds. You can do a variety of drills using this c … Tags: 7 Seconds, Ability Levels, Center Dot, Dots, Duration, Feet, Football Play, Landings, Left Foot, Participants, Quickness, Right Foot, Speed Development, Youth Football
