Posts Tagged “Super Bowl”” For the uninitiated, them ‘re gambling terms. Here’s a quick rundown of things you should know about football gambling and the Super Bowl: Pittsburgh -7: that means Pittsburgh is favored by 7 points. If you bet Pittsburgh, they must win by more than 7. On the flipside, that means Arizona is +7. Bet Arizona and it’s like getting a 7-point lead to start the game. And if the game end 24-17 in favor of Pittsburgh? That’s called a “push,” and everyone gets their original bet back. O/U 46.5: that means the “over” is 46.5 points (also called the “under” or the “total”). If you think the COMBINED score will be more than 46.5 points, you would bet the over. Bet the under is you think the total will be less than 46.5 points. “Juice” on the two types of wagers above is the percentage you pay the casino/bookie/guy down the street, and it’s typically 10%. That means if you bet $110, you will lose $110 or win $100. That’s why gambling is impossible. Most betting on football games is … Tags: Bet, Betting Football, Betting Games, Betting On Football, Casino Bookie, Flipside, Football Gambling, Football Games, Game, Guy Down, Rundown, Score, Super Bowl, Wagers

The Essential Vince Lombardi : Words & Wisdom to Motivate, Inspire, and WinPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Training
Vince Lombardi’s views on life and leadership–inspiring and motivational–placed in A-Z format for the first time Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi left the national spotlight more than three decades ago, but his fiery words continue to resonate in today’s hard-charging business arena. The Essential Vince Lombardi compiles Lombardi’s most memorable quotes and phrases, alphabetically by topic, for use in speeches, memos, and documents–or just for fingertip inspiration and insight. Tags: Business Arena, Businesspeople, Everyday Situations, Fiery Words, Football Team, Green Bay Packers, Leadership Wisdom, Legendary Football Coach, Matter Of Fact, Memos, More Than Three Decades, National Spotlight, Phrases, Quote Book, Rare Photographs, Speeches, Super Bowl, Vince Lombardi, Vince Lombardi Jr, Words Wisdom.. and nothing is getting any bigger and better. It’s probably the fourth or fifth most attractive event now, behind only the Super Bowl, World Series, NCAA Championship football game and the Masters (if Tiger Woods plays). With 32 teams making selections, there’s bound to be a surprise or two or more, and that just heightens the appeal. We’re going to predict some shockers for this year’s draft … we’re not saying they will happen, but hey, they could. SHOCKER NO. 1: No team is more unpredictable than the Patriots. Master guru Bill Belichick always has some tricks up his sleeve. Last year, he surprised by taking Tennessee linebacker Jerrod Mayo at No. 10. He was rewarded by seeing Mayo voted NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. This year, he holds a trump card with his in-demand backup quarterback Matt Cassel. We think he’ll send Cassel to Tampa Bay for its top pick, No. 19. Why Tampa? Because Tampa is bringing in a new GM and new coach, and the new regime will want to make a splash. Made a nice run with rookie Joe Flacco but got beaten by the rival Steelers… good season. 6. Panthers. 12-4. Taken by surprise in the playoffs, but had an overall great season. 7. Cardinals. 9-7. Carried by Fitzgerald, they sneak into the playoffs, and then make a solid run to lead Warner to another emotional Super Bowl with the Steelers. 8. Eagles. 9-6-(1). Got cut short by the Cardinals deep passing game, but really showed that they have what it takes. 9. Chargers. 8-8. Little production from LT in the playoffs cut San Diego short yet again in the postseason, but they are a consistently threatening team. 10. Falcons. 11-5. Led by Matt Ryan, Atlanta made a push, but stumbled at a bad time. No one expected the depleted Falcons to have this kind of success. 11. Vikings. 10-6. Top Ten Wide Receivers in the NFLPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best Articles10. Steve Smith: Has great experience as he’s been to a Super Bowl. Has been good throughout most of his career. This season he has four touchdowns and nearly 700 yards receiving. 9. Santana Moss: More streaky than others on this list. You never know when Moss is going to beat you deep, but when he does, look out! He averages about 14.3 yards per reception. 8. T.J. Houshmandzadeh: It is about as hard to spell his name as it is for defensive backs to cover him. He is having a stellar year in 2008. It would be even better if he had a good quarterback throwing him the ball. 7. Roddy White: Now that they have a good quarterback in Atlanta, Roddy White has flourished. He has 900 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns already! 6. Brandon Marshall: Marshall is already starting to come into his own this year with Cutler throwing to him. He caught 18 receptions in one game this year against the San Diego Chargers which set a record for most in a game. 5. Reggie Wayne: Now that he is more out of Marv … Tags: Cutler, Defensive Backs, Game, Marshall, Marv, Nfl, Receptions, Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, San Diego Chargers, Santana Moss, Steve Smith, Super Bowl, T J Houshmandzadeh, Wide Receivers

Greatest Super Bowl CommercialsPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesIt s not about which coach is submerged in a Gatorade bath. It s about one thing, and one thing only: the commercials. Without the commercials, the TV airing the Super Bowl may as well be turned off, or worse, turned to Lifetime. Super Bowl commercials are expensive to air; a thirty second spot in last year s game cost 2.5 million. This makes them great: advertisers don t want to waste their money so they burn more midnight oil, flow more creative juices, and order much more Thai food for those office all-nighters. Some of these advertisers succeed with brilliant commercials, others leave us scratching our heads and asking, Seriously? The good, the bad, and the ugly all find a way into our television sets on Super Bowl Sunday. The following is a list of five of the best commercials generated over the years. Apple 1984 : A commercial that aired in, well, 1984, this Apple commercial is still revered as one of the greatest of all time. A parody of George Orwell s novel about a man l … Tags: 5 Million, Advertisers, Apple 1984, Coach, Creative Juices, Game, George Orwell, Greatest Of All Time, Lifetime, Midnight Oil, Money, Novel, Oil Flow, Parody, Super Bowl, Super Bowl Commercials, Television Sets, Thai Food

The Battle to the Super Bowl - Fumbles, Sacks, Penalties and AllPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesKeep in mind that there are also some fundamental differences between teams that reach the super bowl and ones that do not make the final game. The most important aspect of getting to the super bowl is having a veteran leader that can control the offense at quarterback. Other than Kurt Warner, Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady several years ago stepping into the limelight as young quarterbacks with little experience, most of the signal callers in the game are veterans that have had several years experience with the team they are guiding and know how to make the right decisions in clutch times. They can control the flow of the game, and tend not to panic in the playoffs when there are difficult environments or harsh conditions. In the end, they tend to overcome these obstacles, and if they understand that games are not won or lost on a single play, they are able to control the game enough to win and make the super bowl. Second, a strong, stout defense is required to make the super bowl. … Tags: Ben Roethlisberger, Clutch, Control, Decisions, Environments, Final Game, Fundamental Differences, Games, Harsh Conditions, Kurt Warner, Limelight, Obstacles, Sacks, Signal Callers, Stout Defense, Super Bowl, Tom Brady, Veteran Leader

Lucas Oil Stadium - New Home of the Indianapolis ColtsPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesThis stadium is constructed in preparation for the Super Bowl XLVI to be held in 2012. Aside from the stadium, a new high-rise JW Marriot Indianapolis is being constructed as part of the preparation for the Super Bowl. The architectural firm behind the design of the new stadium is HKS, Inc. with Walter P. Moore as the structural engineer. Similar to other stadium, the Lucas Oil Stadium has a retractable roof and window wall which allows the Colts to play outdoors. The concept of kinetic architecture was utilized in the design of the stadium for it to be a multi-functional facility with the ease of conversion for an increased return of investment. The rights to name the stadium was purchased by Lucas Oil for approximately $120 million for 20 years, thus it is fondly nicknamed as The Luke by some commentators. Despite the state-of-the-art facilities of the new home of the Indianapolis Colts, a retro look is inculcated in the design as a result of Indianapolis’s liking of a field house a … Tags: Architectural Design, Architectural Firm, Art Facilities, Commentators, Conversion, Field House, Functional Facility, Hks, Indianapolis Colts, Jw Marriot, Kinetic Architecture, Liking, Lucas Oil Stadium, P Moore, Retro Look, Return Of Investment, State Of The Art, Structural Engineer, Super Bowl

2008 New Orleans Saints OutlookPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesThe team had a rough start, not only facing the Super Bowl Champion Colts in their first game, but eventually losing their next three games. They also lost running back Deuce McAllister who suffered a second ACL tear. At one point last season the team managed to go on a four-game winning streak, but ultimately lost some important games that eliminated them from the playoffs. It was only two years ago that the Saints put in a victorious season, and won a divisional game over the Philadelphia Eagles. What will it take to put the team back on track? Management deduces that head Coach Sean Payton is still doing his job and readying his team for another Cinderella-esque upset. Since 2006, Payton has been the Saints’ head coach, his first assignment after growing from his assistant head coaching position with the Dallas Cowboys. The team has been patient with Payton, as he is the man that elevated the Saints from a 3-13 record in 2005 to a playoff appearance the next year-in fact, the first … Tags: Acl Tear, Champion, Cinderella, Coach Sean Payton, Colts, Dallas Cowboys, Deuce Mcallister, Divisional Game, First Game, Game Winning Streak, Head Coach, Job, New Orleans Saints, Outlook, Philadelphia Eagles, Playoff Appearance, Super Bowl, Three Games, Track Management

Your 2009 Super Bowl Survival GuidePosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesIt doesn’t matter whether you’re a seasoned veteran of football or someone who has never watched a game in your life, the Super Bowl is one party you don’t want to miss! Where to begin? How about (if you aren’t already) becoming familiar with the teams. As of this writing, the teams left for the ultimate prize include, in the NFC (National Football Conference) two teams not having been expected to make it to this point, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Arizona Cardinals and in the AFC (American Football Conference), two strong teams throughout the regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, with the winner of each conference meeting in the Super Bowl. Let’s briefly break down each of the teams: Arizona Cardinals: Although they won their division, they are definitely the Cinderella team this year, having finished the regular season 9 - 7 in a weak division, and looking none too impressive in the process. In the playoffs however, they beat the Atlanta Falcons 30 - 24 an … Tags: Afc, American Football Conference, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Cinderella, Cinderella Team, Game, National Football Conference, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Ravens, Seasoned Veteran, Super Bowl, Survival Guide

2009 Road to the Super BowlPosted by: Mr.Football in Football Sites and The Best ArticlesAt this point The New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans look awfully GOOD. That being said the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins figure to contest the issue strongly. The schedule factor gives a favorable edge to The Washington Redskins, however, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Green Bay also have scheduling that could be in their favor. The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles have a little tougher road to hoe. Also, keeping it interesting over the next four weeks is the emergence of three or four improving teams, i.e. watch Baltimore, New York, and Arizona. Next, the injury bug and Lady Luck will play their part too. Keep tuned for updates on Big Ben. As of this early date, Tennessee is 8-0, N Y giants 7-1, Carolina 6-2, Washington 6-2, Pittsburgh 5-2, NY Jets 5-3, New England 5-3, Chicago 5-3, Philadelphia 5-3, Green bay 4-4 and also, still hanging in there Tampa Bay 6-3, Chicago 5-3 , Baltimore 5-3 and Arizona 5-3.
