From 1960-1969, the AFL enjoyed the bulk of its success and found itself in direct competition with the National Football League (NFL), with which it would merge in 1970. Even though the NFL and the AFL were rivals before the merger, the NFL considers the records set by AFL teams and players their own. American Football League records for the 1960-1969 seasons prior to the merger include statistics for yards passing, yards rushing, points scored, and Most Valuable Player awards. These records include single games, seasons, and careers. The records break down as follows: The AFL’s records for most passing yards include: George Blanda - Blanda holds the most passing yards in a single game with 464 yards on October 29, 1961 with the Houston Oilers. Blanda was the AFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1961. Joe Namath - Namath recorded the most passing yards in the 1967 season with the New York Jets with a total of 4,007 yards. In the 1968 and 1969 seasons, Namath was named the AFL’s Most Val …

The National Football League has recently added a most interesting offer. Not only does US president and brother George Bush feel Jeb should run for the Oval Office in 2008, he is being persued by the NFL for the position of NFL Commissioner when the spot comes available in July. The funny thing about this is that Gov Bush feels people are trying to plan what it is that he is going to do once he leaves office, and the NFL commissioner’s job is an uncertainty. He feels that he made a commitment in office and that is the only thing that is on his mind at the present moment. He has thanked Current president George Bush for the vote of confidence, as well as the confidence boost he received from the NFL, yet he is really not interested at this moment. Jeb Bush figures that the NFL will not hold the position until he is finished with his term in office, and rightfully so as the league will of course need a commissioner to deal with all the crazy antics that can happen in professional sport …

American Professional Football Association later got rechristened as National Football League (NFL) in 1922 and became America’s favorite sport. Jim Thorpe who was a professional Football player was the first president of NFL and helped add credibility and pouplarity for the sport. Actually Pro Football began in 1892 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when former Yale star William “Pudge” Heffelfinger was paid a notable sum of $500 to play in a single game for the Allegheny Athletic Association on November 12 1892. Then Pro Football was played mostly in the small towns of Pennsylvania and was mostly a Pennsylvanian sport before it started becoming popular in the eastern and Midwestern states like Ohio. Initial Pro Football days faced several problems including lack of rules, keeping the players in order and professional recognition. But with the formation of APFA all the problems started to wade away. Actually there were 11 franchises were presented at the first APFA meeting. They were Canto …

If baseball is the favorite past time of America then Football is known to be the love of the Americans. No matter how rigid the game is people still watch it. They sell-out a lot of tickets and the ratings on TV speak for it. The world of football can be unpredictable. The once always the champions might not be the champion tomorrow. If you check out the history of NFL, you can see that almost every year, the winning team changes. Well this is not only exclusive in the world of sports. Anything is possible with these days. However, with good players, coaches and trainer, the once who made little in football can be the next big giants of the game. Technically speaking, the best team can be the one who wins the most championship rounds. That just clearly shows, how effective the management of the team is and how well the players execute their play. One of the best teams in the history of football is the New York Giants. Just like any other teams, they also experienced a period of shuto …

The National Football League has become the most popular sport in the United States and garners similar attention in the sports betting world. More people bet on NFL games than on any other sport. If you want to be successful and make some money betting on these games, you need to show patience and do a little research. With a couple hundred games during the regular season, it is vital that you take your time and wait for the best opportunity. Sometimes the best betting decision you make is the bet you do not place. Using the Internet to do some research before you place a bet is going to help you win bets more consistently. Spending just 5 to 10 minutes doing research before the game is going to give you the knowledge you need to win bets more often than not. Your research should include taking a peak at the injury report. This is where you will find out what players will not be participating in the game due to injuries. Done. Just see how the atmosphere in the house is charged with electricity with all the screaming and shouting that is bound to happen! Just watching National Football League and United States Football League tackling the football is sure to raise the adrenalin. Football is a game you can enjoy the most when you are in the company of others. It is not meant for lonely hearts. The heart throbbing of that winning goal, the nail biting dodging of the ball, the cursing and swearing that goes with the game is not for the weak hearted. If you happen to suffer from hypertension, trust me this game is not for you. Don t you think that it is only the guys that are going nuts over it. The pointed oval ball with large stitches along one side is the craze of America since the 60s. Even the girls are driving the nation mad with their antics. It is surprising if you consider the fact that football practice is tough and is vigorous too. No, longer are the girls demure or lady like. Those days are lo …

However, when you cheat on work, it is pretty low and disgusting, especially when everybody looks up to you. Professional sports are prone to cheating. There are not only one or two instances, wherein players and coaches, do something to get ahead of their opponents. Part of the cheating is the use of drugs that are stimulant. Stimulants like steroids are performance-enhancing drugs that will not wear you out while you are in the competition. There were many players using these drugs in NFL. Now, they banned it because this is a way of regulating the competition. This also ensures a fair fight among players because from the looks of it, nobody gets to be a superhuman just to win the game. There are forms of cheating in sports that can be lowly. Moreover, this type of cheating has been recently done by the New England Patriots. Yes, this three-time Super Bowl Champions have cheated their way by capturing the defensive signals of the New York Jets with a use of a video cam. This scandal …

Its name was changed yet again to its current name a year after that. The league started with a mere 11 members but has evolved to 32 teams divided into 2 conferences with 16 teams each. This in turn has resulted in a flood of NFL merchandise available such as mini NFL helmets. The long history of the league has thus resulted in some amusing and interesting NFL trivia. NFL popularity American Football has been the most popular sport in the US since 1965. The NFL has the largest per-game attendance of any domestic professional sports league in the world, pulling over 67,000 spectators per game for every one of its two most recently completed seasons, 2006 and 2007. However, the National Football League’s overall attendance is only about 20% of that of Major League Baseball, due to MLB’s 162 game schedule. In a sports poll completed in 2008, the NFL was the favorite sport of almost as many people (30 percent) as the combined total of the next four professional sports - baseball (15 perc …

We area working offense primarily today. Our dynamic warm up and angle form tackling is at about 8 minutes now, combined with our voluntary pre-practice pass catching and kicking progressions, it is plenty of time to get the muscle blood flow and muscle activation we are looking for. As has been the case we have all three teams doing individual drills together, which allows us to pit like skilled and sized players together. The line started off with our board drill, of course starting with a fit, then going live. This year we were blessed with some half round dummies, they work extremely well for this drill if you put 2 back to back. It forces the linemen to keep a wide base, otherwise they step on the dummy and fall. The board is less forgiving, slick and just 6 inches wide. I’m a huge believer in long half rounds, if you have the funds. We next did double team fits on a tall bag, then progressed to live double teams. Remember to pair the linemen together that will be double teaming …
