Support for this rule is unanimous although some suggest the change is not nearly enough. Some experts would like the number of mandatory home grown players in a football league squad increased to five or six. Critics also claim the rule four player rules should apply to the eleven players who are on the pitch at any one time. In recent years, debate has raged over the impact on the identity of domestic football in countries who import large numbers of foreign players in to their leagues. English football league clubs hope the implementation of the home grown rule will help the wider game. Not everyone will agree with that sentiment especially premiership clubs who are overloaded with foreign players. It is highly unlikely that the biggest and most wealthy clubs in English football would agree wholeheartedly with this rule.
